How do I sign up for The Refuge Open Mic?

The night of our open mic, you will be able to sign up to perform using our virtual sign up! In order to sign up to perform, you must be on site.

Do I need to physically be in the building in order to sign up?

How much time will I have?

All open mic-ers will have 4 minutes on our stage.

Will I be able to perform?

Our open mic slots are first-come first-served. The earlier you arrive, the more likely you’ll be able to sign up to perform.

Can I choose when I perform?

Acts will be called in the order as submitted through our virtual sign up.

How many open mic slots are there?

We cut off the sign up sheet after 20 acts.

Question 7

I signed up for the open mic and did not get a chance to perform.

Accepted Answer

If you were signed up and did not get to perform by the end of the night, your name will be among the first acts called the following week.

Question 8

Can the DJ play my track?

Accepted Answer

We do not use tracks at The Refuge Open Mic under any circumstances. Our houseband can pick up any groove you would want and can play any style.

Question 9

Can the band learn my song?

Accepted Answer

While our musicianship allows us to learn music on the spot, time does not. If you have concerns about the band being able to pick up your music, you may want to consider having a second option that people generally know just in case!

Can I sing more than one song?

Each act will have one groove for the duration of their time on stage. If you would like to do a mashup that includes multiple songs, you are more than welcome to do so within the 4 minutes allotted for the open mic slot.

Do I have to use the band?

If you would like to perform acapella, or would like to accompany yourself, you are more than welcome to do so! We just ask that you indicate what you would like with either the hosts or the band's MD.

I don’t want to sign up, I just want to vibe, what do I do?

Accepted Answer

Just come be in the room. We pride ourselves on being a safe space. A refuge. We’d love to have you just for the experience!
