Bio:
Ivan Velez has used his stories to promote social change. His series "Tales of the Closet" was one of the first interventions aimed at LGBTQI+ youth. He broke new ground by creating characters of diverse ethnicities, gender identities, and orientations for mainstream comic book companies. His work has been translated into five languages and featured in several award-winning anthologies. Ivan curates shows and events on both coasts of the United States, as well as in the Caribbean and Asia. He is a proud teaching artist for New York public organizations and institutions. He is currently working on completing "The Ballad of Wham Kabam," an upcoming series funded by a 2015 Creative Capital grant.
