Does Columbia SWE provide transportation to and from the event?

Accepted Answer

No we do not provide transportation but are happy to provide advice for using public transit and traveling to NYC.

Are parents/guardians allowed to attend?

Accepted Answer

No, parents may not accompany their student throughout the day's activities. Students will be supervised by Columbia engineers at all times, though, and following registration, a detailed schedule with building locations will be shared. For safety concerns please contact swe.columbia.eee@gmail.com

What should parents/guardians do during the day after dropoff then?

Enjoy NYC and Columbia's college neighborhood of Morningside Heights! Lauren, one of the student organizers, is happy to share a complete list of food and activity recommendations. Please contact swe.columbia.eee@gmail.com

Question 4

Are teachers allowed to chaperone student groups?

Accepted Answer

Yes, but no more than 2 teachers per school may accompany their student groups.

What does drop-off look like on the day of the event?

Accepted Answer

There will be a canopy with Columbia Public Safety Officers and SWE volunteers outside of the Columbia University gates on 116th street and Broadway. Students will check-in there and receive their badge ID's for the summit.

Can I see the schedule now?

Accepted Answer

As we approach the event, all registrants will be receiving a minute-by-minute schedule breakdown of the day's activity.  This is not available to the gen public/those not registered for the event for safety reasons.

Can current college students register for this event?

Accepted Answer

No, this event is for high school girls and is partially aimed at helping high schoolers approach the college engineering program application process.

Can male-identifying students attend?

Accepted Answer

What should I bring?

A water bottle and yourself! There will be a fair amount of walking around Columbia's gated campus so please make sure you have comfy shoes

Is there a dress code?

Nope! Please just dress in a school and weather-appropriate manner in whatever makes you feel most confident and brilliant

Do I need to prepare any materials for attendance?

Please complete any forms and safety waivers shared by Columbia SWE's event organizers. Beyond that, nope! You do not need to come to EEE with any previous knowledge of engineering at all - this is a day for you to learn, make mistakes, have fun, and feel smart and ready to shine as an engineer

What will SWE be doing to celebrate Star Wars day?

As mega-geeks ourselves, we consider May the Fourth be With You to be a very important holiday. If enough registrants express interest, we will have a Kahoot-style trivia contest during lunch.

Will there be food and will there be more than last year?

Accepted Answer

Yes! We heard your feedback and this year there will be food and snack breaks throughout the whole day. Please bring your own water bottles though!
