Collectors' Life: Inaugural MAAAC Exhibition Nov/Dec 2005

Danielle Scott is a mixed-media assemblage artist based in Jersey City, New Jersey, whose work explores themes of joy and pain, particularly concerning the experiences of women of color. She has taught art for nineteen years and holds a B.F.A., having studied under Jack Whitten.

Scott's paintings, photography, and sculptures are intended to resonate with viewers. Her work is often inspired by her experiences as an Afro-Cuban, Polish-Jewish, lesbian woman and mother. She was recognized in 2021 by Essence Magazine. In 2024, she and the filmmakers of "Danielle Scott: Ancestral Call" received an NAACP Image Award nomination.

On Thursday, 13 November, Ms Scott will be in conversation with local luminary; artist, author, and playwright, Misty Sol.
