This CPD seminar will be a joint event between IStructE, RIAS and CIBSE where we will be looking at how Scotland’s multidisciplinary design teams are working together collaboratively towards Net Zero within the construction industry.
The seminar will provide useful CPD for engineers, construction professionals and architects at various stages of their careers from new graduates, those working towards chartered membership and for our more experienced members looking to stay abreast of current best practice.
The seminar will be held at the Engine Shed in Stirling where there will be an opportunity to look around the building which is Historic Environment Scotland’s dedicated building conservation centre. As a hub of digital innovation and heritage science, it is home to specialist labs.
Programme - please note we will start promptly at 10.45am.

Our speakers:
Ann-Marie Fallon is one of the UK’s leading experts on Passivhaus design and has shared her experience at UK and international Passivhaus Trust conferences. She has successfully delivered the award-winning and UK’s largest Passivhaus residential scheme, Agar Grove.
Ann-Marie worked closely with the Scottish Futures Trust developing the new cost metric for Scotland’s learning estate as well as contributing to new energy requirements for Scotland’s education sector, linking capital funding to operational energy performance over a 25-year period.
Sam Boyle is a qualified architect with a diverse range of award-winning projects across multiple sectors, including further education, healthcare, sports, mixed-use commercial and residential. He has a keen interest in projects with a positive social agenda, focusing on community engagement, sustainable urban regeneration and meaningful placemaking. Since joining Architype, Sam is working as part of the team delivering a series of Passivhaus schools across Scotland.
Toby MacLean is a structural engineer with a diverse career engineering everything from oil platforms and concert halls to handbags. He established the successful TALL Engineers in 2005 that went on to build a reputation for providing practical yet technically sophisticated and holistic solutions to diverse projects in the built environment and concentrating on design from first principles, with the firm increasingly concentrating on timber as a structural material. Having sold this firm, in 2020 Toby established Allt Environmental to atone for past carbon sins and to address the urgent need to decarbonise the built environment especially in relation to embodied carbon.
Jocelyne Fleming is the Senior Policy & Public Affairs Officer for Scotland at the Chartered Institute of Building. Here, she leads the organisation’s work advocating in the public interest on all issues relating to the built environment and construction in Scotland. Jocelyne is also undertaking a PhD in Urban Studies at the University of Glasgow.
Jonathan Annan is a Chartered Surveyor and Director with the one of the UK's premier property services companies.
Caitriona Jordan is the lead for Retrofit and Energy Efficiency Programmes she is responsible for the implementation, oversight and delivery of retrofit programmes to accelerate the built environments transition to net zero carbon. Caitriona has well established networks within the connected ecosystem and is a chartered Architect who worked in the Built Environment education sector for almost 10 years with City of Glasgow College. Since joining BE-ST in 2021 Caitriona has led Low Carbon Learning, Scotland’s first national Passivhaus, retrofit and fabric first training programme.
Julie Godefroy is a chartered engineer. She works as independent sustainability consultant and as Head of Net Zero for CIBSE, where she leads the work on climate action including the Net Zero Carbon Building Standard, policy work, and collaboration with other institutions.
Toby Tucker is an Associate Director at Scottish Futures Trust, with responsibility for developing financing and funding strategies within the low carbon team, particularly for non domestic energy efficiency and district heating schemes. Produce and develop financial tools and strategies that can be used in pre-feasibility studies and business case development for public sector bodies undertaking low carbon projects. Temporarily supporting the use and development of the Net Zero Public Sector Buildings Standard
Will Arnold is an award-winning Fellow and staff member of The Institution of Structural Engineers, and is both a Chartered Structural Engineer and Chartered Environmentalist. In his role at IStructE, Will is responsible for embedding climate action into all aspects of the institution's work. He is well-known for his work on embodied carbon policy in the UK, including on Part Z and the UK Net Zero Carbon Buildings Standard.
Ángel Morales-Aguilar studied Architecture at the Escuela Técnica Superior de Arquitectura de Granada and holds a MBA in Urban Design by the Colegio Oficial de Arquitectos de Granada. He worked across several sectors in Spain, Germany, and Poland before moving to Scotland in 2007. A Certified Passivhaus Designer and a Whole Life Carbon expert, Ángel is the joint Chair of RIAS Sustainability Committee and represents RIAS at the Governance Board of the UK Net Zero Carbon Building Standard.
Ingrid Berkeley leads Max Fordham’s sustainability offering in Scotland and the certification team for the practice. Building Performance and Net Zero are a particular interest; optimising energy efficiency and supporting building users through Soft Landings, aftercare and Post Occupancy Evaluations, resulting in several CIBSE Building Performance Awards. Ingrid sits on the Heriot-Watt University Industrial Advisory Panel for the Architectural Engineering programmes and is an active STEM Ambassador. She also sat on the Operational Energy Task Group for the UK NZCBS and is on the working group to develop the Scottish Equivalent to Passivhaus.
