Event description

Description

The Partnership for Smarter Growth is known for its commitment to public engagement and transparency in decision making, as well as our “Walk and Talk” events where we tour neighborhoods to discuss urban design, redevelopment, transportation, affordable housing, and more. Our next walking tour and discussion will feature the hottest topic of the moment, the proposed Coliseum/Navy Hill economic development project.

As we write this, we are sending out speaking invitations to the Mayor, city staff, representatives of the Navy Hill development group, and community leaders. We’ll lead the tour and moderate the discussion as we walk from City Hall to the Coliseum, and then to two related building sites south of Broad Street.

Date: Saturday, November 16th, 3:00-4:30 PM, followed by PSG Happy Hour at Capital Ale House

Starting Point: Meet at City Hall, 900 E Broad Street (Broad Street side)

End: Capital Ale House, 623 E Main Street

More information:

The proposed Coliseum/Navy Hill project and tax increment financing deal is the largest proposed economic development deal in the city’s history. It’s focused on a 10-block area in the heart of downtown encompassing the Coliseum, the historic Blues Armory, two parking garages, and surface parking. Also included in the proposal are two other large and valuable parcels (one on Broad Street and one at 6th and Grace Streets). A proposal of such magnitude requires careful vetting, thoughtful consideration and discussion.

The afternoon will begin with a walk and talk tour of the parcel. The conversation will be moderated by two Partnership for Smarter Growth board members and planning experts, Stewart Schwartz and Trip Pollard. We will be stopping with our guest speakers at points along the route for discussion of various aspects of the proposal.

We’ll wrap up the tour near Capital Ale House where we’ll adjourn for a happy hour with networking and an introduction of PSG’s new coordinators and an brief update on PSG’s plans for the coming year.
