About this event

  • Event lasts 1 hour

You see a coyote on the path ahead of you—what do you do? This scenario is becoming increasingly common for Bay Area residents as coyote sightings surge from San Francisco's Golden Gate Park to the Peninsula hills and South Bay neighborhoods. While most encounters are harmless, recent reports of bolder coyote behavior have raised important questions about how we can safely coexist with these intelligent animals in our shared landscape.

Join POST on August 28 at 7 p.m. for an informative, live one-hour webinar exploring coyote ecology and successful coexistence in Bay Area communities.

Here's what you can expect to learn:

  • How coyotes expanded across the USA and their history in the Bay Area
  • Understanding coyote ecology and behavior
  • The evolution of human-coyote relationships
  • Current Bay Area research on coyote ecology and coexistence
  • Best practices for preventing conflicts and responding to encounters

POST is excited to welcome back Dr. Christine Wilkinson, who captivated audiences in our "Queer Is Natural" online event last year. As a conservation scientist and carnivore ecologist at UC Santa Cruz and the California Academy of Sciences, Christine brings deep expertise in human-wildlife interactions to this timely topic.

Dr. Wilkinson will explain the science behind coyote behavior, share insights from her California research, and provide practical strategies for conflict prevention.

Register today for this free event. Whether you're a wildlife enthusiast, concerned pet owner, or simply curious about your wild neighbors, don't miss this opportunity to learn from one of California's leading experts on human-wildlife coexistence.

POST protects open space on the San Francisco Peninsula and in the South Bay for the benefit of all. Since 1977, we've worked hard to permanently protect lands for hiking and recreation trails, wildlife habitats, redwood trees and local farms—all of which make our region extraordinary.

We want people to get out and enjoy these amazing local landscapes, so we host all kinds of community events—and we'd love for you to join us! See our full list of hikes, film screenings, lectures and more.

We're an accredited land trust and a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, which means we're funded by the generous support of private individuals and foundations.

POST-protected properties are all around: Windy Hill, Mindego Hill and several others off of Skyline Boulevard; Tunitas Creek Beach in Half Moon Bay; Bair Island in Redwood City; Whaler's Cove by Pigeon Point in Pescadero; parts of Coyote Valley in San Jose; and many more.
