Type V-A construction may be the most difficult type of construction to build a structure by. This seminar discusses the design, construction and inspection of Group R-2 occupancies including, building planning, fire-resistive rated construction, fire protection requirements and means of egress requirements.

  • This full-day program includes lunch.
  • This class will be submitted for approval for 6.0 AIA CES Health, Safety, and Welfare (HSW) learning unit hours

Bill Clayton has been involved in the building industry since the early 70’s, first as a builder/designer then as an inspector for Pikes Peak Regional Building Department in Colorado Springs. He quickly developed an interest in learning more about the codes and became a combination inspector in Westminster, CO, then Senior Plans Examiner before becoming the Chief Building Official for Lakewood, Colorado for 8 years.

Mr. Clayton has been a Code Instructor, Plans Examiner, Code Consultant, and Inspector for CCC/Shums Coda Associates for the past 9+ years and an ICC Instructor for 6+ years. Bill’s specialties Include Fire Resistive Construction, Existing Building Code, and Accessibility.

During his career Bill has obtained 18 IBC/ICBO Certifications, 4 FEMA certifications, Fire Stop Council Certified Inspector, State of Colorado 3rd Party Public School Inspector, and State of California Office of Emergency Services Damage Assessment Inspector certifications.

Mr. Clayton has served on the 2009, 2012 IEBC committee and the 2015 IBC General Committee and was appointed to the 2024 IEBC Committee.

Bill is the Author of the new ICC Resource book Firestopping, Joint Systems and Dampers based on the 2024 IBC.
