Cockettes Nouveau
Overview
Cockettes Nouveau is a glitter-drenched, gender-bending musical theatre troupe based in San Francisco, drawing inspiration from the original Cockettes while creating fresh, contemporary work rooted in drag, satire, and queer performance. Their productions blend camp aesthetics, live music, and original songs to explore themes of identity, sexuality, and artistic freedom.
Featuring a talented ensemble of queer performers, singers, and artists led by original Cockette Scrumbly Koldewyn, Cockettes Nouveau conjures spectacle with every show — from psychedelic musicals to bawdy revues.
They’ve sold out performances at Joe’s Pub in New York City, Oasis SF, PianoFight in San Francisco and Oakland, and The Victoria Theatre They earned a 2020 Bestie Award from the Bay Area Reporter for the Cockettes’ 50th Anniversary Celebration featuring cult film icon John Waters.
“Shocked and delighted from the opening number to the devilishly funny finale.” – Lavender After Dark, NYC. “Groundbreaking and delectably decadent.”
“Cockettes then, Cockettes now, Cockettes forever,” – John Waters.
Cockettes Nouveau welcomes a new generation of performers and audiences into the sequined spotlight — honoring a legacy while forging new creative ground. With camp, spectacle, and a taste for the fabulous, they show up to entertain, provoke — and leave glitter wherever they go.
