Clematis Street Today: A Model for Main Street Transformation - Florida Planning & Zoning Association's Fall 2025 Regional Forum

We’d like to invite you to the Florida Planning & Zoning Association’s Fall Regional Forum hosted by the South Florida Chapter in West Palm Beach! Join us for a presentation on the Downtown and CityPlace and walking tour of Downtown and Clematis Street with planner/architects who have been part of the area’s many re-inventions.

Presentation. City of West Palm Beach Staff will present City Place, an award-winning New Urban development which celebrates its 25th anniversary in 2025. City Place is a mixed-use retail, residential, and entertainment space and was one of Florida’s first Public Private Partnerships. The CityPlace name and brand changed three times as the 20+ block area transitioned from a lifestyle center for visiting suburbanites to a complete urban quarter serviced by transit with a diverse resident population.

Tour. While we take a short walk through the Downtown we will discuss the evolution of urban design in the historic heart of downtown West Palm Beach. From the Historic 1916 Courthouse to landmarks like the Comeau and Harvey buildings, learn the stories behind some of the city’s most impressive buildings and the efforts that preserve their quality workmanship and beauty to impress future generations. Explore the architectural styles that define the West Palm Beach skyline. The Clematis Street streetscape has been newly redeveloped and it is “America’s best new main street” according to Planner Jeff Speck, author of Walkable City. We will discuss how a street can become a public plaza with one of the street’s designers.

Happy Hour. We will have drinks and a happy hour at a Clematis Street hot spot.
