The City of Pittsburgh has partnered with the Pennsylvania Resources Council (PRC)to provide Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) drop off recycling services for City residents (ONLY City residents are able to utilize this service).

This service is registration based and tickets are available per person.

All acceptable materials will be weighed, and fees assessed when material is dropped off. PRC reserves the right to refuse any material deemed unacceptable.


NOTE: While registration is free, materials are charged at a cost. See listing below:

$0.25/lb: paints, antifreeze, used oil, other fuels

$1.25/lb: pesticides, poisons, household cleaners, asbestos, acids, aerosols, oxidizers, putty & adhesives, cosmetics

$2.95/lb: flammable and reactive solids, quarts of oil

Small propane tanks: <20lbs $4 each; >20lbs $14 each; fire extinguishers: $14 each

$35.00/lb: mercury-containing devices

$ 0.35/lb: E-Waste (computers & laptops are free of charge)

Procedures:

  • Please arrive on site at your allotted time.
  • Place materials to be recycled in trunk or truck bed if able
  • Payment is accepted via cash, check, debit, or credit card

* Also, please be advised that appointment times are not guarantees of service time. All staff and volunteers work to provide safe and responsible service, as such, some customer experiences may take shorter or longer than the average service time which could impact precise timing of service.

*Any use of disrespectful behavior (shouting, abusive language, etc.) towards volunteers and PRC staff will result in an immediate loss of service for that event.
