About this event

  • Event lasts 3 hours
  • ALL AGES

Join us for a reading party across several fantastic locations in Seattle’s Chinatown-International District! After an hour of reading with fellow book lovers, we'll go to lunch together and explore the neighborhood. Browse Mam's Books and get discounted tickets to Wing Luke Museum--just mention you're attending CID Silent Reading Block Party!

Here's the plan:

Choose from one of the venues below for an hour of reading with fellow book lovers. If the venue is full when you arrive, try the next closest one--each spot has limited capacity & will fill up fast, so be sure to be on time! View all of our reading venues on this map.

  1. Jollidaze Cafe (519 6th Ave S #110) Serving coffee, hot cocoas, refreshers, bites, ice cream and more!
  2. Zakka-Ya (616 S Jackson St) Japanese & Filipinx gift and stationery shop
  3. Panama Hotel Cafe (605 South Main St) Tea and coffeehouse inside the historic Panama Hotel
  4. A Resting Place (670 S King St) This community grief support center is offering a mirror-lined, plant-filled room to create a peaceful, restful space for reading.
  5. Reclaim Clay Collective (800 S Weller St, Suite 201) A POC, queer, women-owned community pottery + art studio located in the historic Tsue Chong fortune cookie factory in Seattle's CID. They're building an intentional, inclusive community through art!
  6. Seattle Public Library - CID Branch (713 8th Ave S) The local branch of our beloved SPL!
  7. Hing Hay Park (423 Maynard Ave S) This urban park is a popular lunch spot & features a brick square with a pavilion built in Taiwan, as well as lots of seating!

😷Masks encouraged!

This bookish block party is brought to you by Seattle Chinatown Book Club, Queer Silent Book Club Sattle, and CID Business Improvement Area.

Frequently asked questions

Do I select the venue I want to read at when I sign up?

Nope! Each venue has generously reserved some space for readers, but it's first come, first seated--so pick a venue and if it's full, try the next one!

How far apart are the venues?

Only a few minutes' walk! You can view the full map in the event description above.

How will I know if I'm in the right place?

There will be a host to greet you at each reading venue. If the venue is already full, the host will point you towards the next venue!

How does the reading hour work?

We'll start with quick intros (your name and pronouns, where you're traveling from today, and what you're reading), then we'll read together for an hour, and chitchat afterwards!

What am I supposed to read? Is there an assigned book?

You can read whatever you want--bring the book you happen to be reading or whatever's next on your TBR! You can also listen to an audiobook! All readers, genres, and reading formats are so welcome.

What are we doing after we read?

We'll go to lunch in the neighborhood and then explore! Wing Luke Museum is offering discounted tickets--just mention CID Reading Block Party when you buy your ticket!
