Question 1

Do I need instruments to do Chöd?

Accepted Answer

It is best to use a Chöd drum, bell, and kangling (bone horn), but it is not required.

Question 2

What if I don't know how to play the instruments/am not good at playing musical instruments?

Accepted Answer

Participants will have the opportunity to learn the instruments from a video lesson, with plenty of time to practice before the workshop.

Question 3

Can I get help learning the instruments?

Accepted Answer

There will be opportunities to work on playing your instruments in the workshop.  Until then, watch the video lesson and practice diligently on your own.  If, after the workshop, you still feel like your instrumental skills need some one-on-one attention, we can explore opportunities at that time.

Question 4

I don't meet the requirements to sign up, but I'd really like to learn Chöd. What can I do?

Accepted Answer

Without the proper foundation of practice, it is in your best interest to wait to receive the Chöd instruction.  Devote yourself to gaining the necessary experience to participate in a future Chöd workshop.  We try to offer Chöd instruction at least once every two years.

Where are the videos I am supposed to watch?

Accepted Answer

Lama Adam will email registrants a link to all the necessary resources.

If you do not receive this email within a week of your Eventbrite registration, email lamaaadam@columbusktc.org to have the information re-sent.

Question 6

Why do I have to do all these preliminaries?  Can't I just go to the workshop?

Accepted Answer

This is an intensive workshop, with a lot of information condensed into one day. Previous workshops took place in multiple sessions over several weeks.  We can accomplish the same in this one-day intensive, but your diligent preparation is essential.

Question 7

Is there a recording of the practice I can listen to?

Accepted Answer

All registrants will receive a recording via email.

Question 8

I cannot attend the in-person workshop, but may I watch the preparatory videos mentioned above?

Accepted Answer

No.  The preparatory videos are intended to be used in the context of the intensive workshop, and will not be shared outside of that context.
