About this event
It has been a year of resilience, community-building, and action! Join Climate First: Replacing Oil & Gas (CFROG) for a celebration of the impact we've made together this year and over the last decade. This will be a wonderful time to connect with fellow climate activists and community members and learn more and get involved in active climate action campaigns.
Enjoy live music, refreshments, and hear directly from CFROG community leaders and staff on current campaigns and impact over the last year, including:
- Building Central Coast support for the Make Polluters Pay Climate Superfund Act;
- Training hundreds of pre-apprenticeship students in offshore wind;
- Designing the first community-led community black carbon pollution monitoring project in Ventura County;
- And more!
Learn more about our speakers:
Alex Mantanona is an Oxnard resident who has a B.S. in Biochemistry and M.S. in Chemistry from CSU Northridge, in addition to a Ph.D. in Inorganic Chemistry from UC San Diego. After spending a couple years working on applied environmental science and biotechnology in San Diego, Alex recently moved back to Oxnard where he now focuses on helping people and communities improve the world we share together. Following the devastating 2025 LA fires, Alex spent about six months working on the burn scar to support disaster recovery efforts. Alex now works at Central Coast Alliance United for a Sustainable Economy (CAUSE) as the Oxnard Environmental Justice and Policy Advocate.
Melissa Muñoz is a lifelong Camarillo resident and a third-year Oxnard College student majoring in Sociology. Melissa's journey with CFROG began through theOxnard College Community Leadership Fellowship, a program that supports students and local organizations in working together to foster community leadership and grassroots action. Throughout Melissa's fellowship, she has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to environmental stewardship, civic engagement, and community organizing. Melissa has authored a powerful op-ed that was featured in the VC Star, and has continued to grow into a bold community leader. Melissa is an aspiring environmental protection litigator and plans to transfer to CSU Northridge next fall.
