Checkmate in 5 is a five-part series of immersive chess tournaments featuring art installations, live experiences, and em‘bodied’ strategy—pivoting across Connecticut and foreshadowing the unveiling of Ashley the Creator’s new body of work and exclusive product release.
The first move on August 16th , at Parkville Market on the outside patio, at 1pm.
Initially planned for July 20th to align with International Chess Day, which is on July 20th.
There are 2 tiers for tickets;
🏆the 1st is for contestants who will be competing to win a trophy (designed/sculpted by Artist Ashley the Creator)
✌🏾the 2nd tier is general, non competitive but open to friendly games of chess whenever a chess set it open(options to bring your own chess set as well)
♟️👑♟️The 2 finalists will battle it out on a life sized art installation, where people become the pieces.
How you ask? Utilizing headwear sculpted as each peice of the board, the audience and/or previous competitors may choose to be a part of this somatic experience. (Think of that one scene from the first Harry Potter movie)
There will be food from the vendors, flash tattoos, art reveals, live painting, and custom cocktails for your entertainment.
