Can artificial intelligence (AI) help us understand regional health inequalities or might they create more problems than they solve? What are the risks in using AI specifically for qualitative research on such topics? Join the North East Data Network (DataNEt) and Gateshead Council for a workshop exploring the ethical questions that arise when using AI for health research in the North East. Focusing on a particular case study for using generative AI for understanding regional mental health inequalities, this interactive workshop will bring together academics and local policymakers to address questions about adoption of AI in public health for the goal of local policymaking. During the session, participants will:
· Identify potential benefits and concerns on the use of AI
· Share diverse perspectives on responsible technology use
· Help develop guidelines for ethical AI use in local government
· Contribute to creating responsible technology systems for public health
Through guided small and large group discussions, we'll move beyond theoretical concerns to practical solutions. Your expertise will directly inform next steps for developing ethical approaches that serve community health needs while protecting vulnerable populations.
