About this event

  • Event lasts 1 hour

Our youngest learners are being kicked out of school for using inappropriate language, showing disrespect, and insubordination. These are teachable moments. Young children need to stay in school where they can work with teachers, counselors, and social workers. They receive no instruction or professional support while they are suspended. During this session, you will learn how to use Love Our Children NC's new online resource to help you change your local Board of Education's exclusionary discipline policies. Exclusionary discipline includes out-of-school suspensions, seclusions, and expulsions. Join Peter Rawitsch, Co-Founder and Lead Advocate for Love Our Children NC, as he presents data, research, and information about your School District’s Code of Conduct and policies. He will also share some 2-minute speeches that you can adapt when speaking at your School Board meetings. Together, we will end out-of-school suspensions for 4, 5, 6, and 7-year-olds in North Carolina and provide them with the help and support they need.

Love Our Children NC is dedicated to ending exclusionary discipline in North Carolina. We are working to change harmful suspension and seclusion policies and statutes. We believe all children should receive the help and support they need in school.
