CERT Continuing Education - CERT Incident Command System (ICS) and Forms

You may be the first person there. You might be a member of a team. You might be leading a team. You might be leading multiple teams from a Staging Area or Command Post.

What makes the Community Emergency Response Team so versatile is our ability to adapt to the needs of the incident.

Incident Command System (ICS) is how the response structure of an incident or event expands and contracts as needed. But ICS is more than just a organization structure, it's a standardized, flexible system that allows everyone to work together and communicate.

ICS can be used to manage complex incidents with hundreds, even thousands of resources and a command structure pages deep.

But what people forget is that ICS starts with 1 person and grows and shrinks from there.

So instead of focusing on how complicated and deep an ICS chart can be, we'll focus on the important parts of how CERT Teams will use it and then talk about how they fit in when the team folds in under the professional response.

We'll also touch on the forms that we use to keep track of the incident and the importance of documentation and how they are used to maintain sanity when there are multiple incidents occurring and multiple teams are out in the field.

As always, our trainings are open to everyone regardless of if you are a graduate of the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Training or not or a resident of Los Angeles City or not.
