No prior clay experience is needed; beginners are welcome. After the pieces are created and burnished, they will be pit fired offsite within the following week.

Pieces will be available to pick up 2-3PM, Saturday, November 22 at Four Mothers Collective, 1306 E 11th St, Tulsa, OK

About the Artist: Jessi Sands is a multidisciplinary artist who uses mediums such as painting, ceramics, printmaking, and mixed media to explore how the intersectionality of their multiracial identity influences their roles as an Indigenous parent, queer person, and land steward. Jessi grew up in Oklahoma on the Cherokee reservation and lives on their Mvskoke reservation in Tulsa, OK. They received their Associates of Arts from Tulsa Community College in 2021 and their Bachelor of Fine Arts in Studio Art with primary focuses in ceramics and oil painting with minors in American Indian Studies, Pre-Art Therapy, and Art History from Oklahoma State University in 2024. Currently, Jessi is working towards receiving their MA in Art Therapy/Counseling with eco-therapy and trauma-focused certifications from Southwestern College and New Earth Institute in Santa Fe, NM. Jessi was a part of “Bright City: Cultural Confluence,” a year-long public art exhibition with seven other Indigenous artists from Oklahoma displayed in Macon, GA. Jessi’s goal is to continue their studio practice and cultivate spaces for healing and reconnecting to the land with tribal communities as an art therapist.

Four Mothers Collective is an art collective founded and run by Indigenous Women, dedicated to addressing the systemic barriers and lack of representation that BIPOC women, girls, and Two-Spirit individuals face in the art world. These groups often encounter limited access to resources, professional development opportunities, and platforms for showcasing their work. Their goal is to create inclusive spaces where these communities can express themselves, connect, and thrive creatively and professionally.
