Our 35th season commences with works that represent the precious gemstone, coral; this warm hue is present in nature around us at this time of year. We open the concert with a commissioned composition of Aaron Copland which was an overture that characterized as having an "open air" quality, hence it was titled An Outdoor Overture. This will be followed by the virtuosic and dynamic work for the French horn, Strauss' Horn Concerto No. 1. Our soloist, Grace Salyards is a vibrant performer and passionate educator, recognized for her expressive artistry and engaging teaching style. Wagner's Good Friday Music from Parsifal will transport the audience to a dreamlike sunny flower filled meadow with its "aching beauty." Our afternoon will then conclude with Liszt's Les Preludes which illustrates the journey of a man from his early youth to maturity just as the leaves on the trees go from delicate blossoms to beautiful flowers to their full splendor at this time of year with their colors of yellow, coral, and rust.
