This year's tour will focus on Champaign County residents who participated in the
Civil War and who are buried at
Maple Grove Cemetery, Mechanicsburg, OH.
If you enjoy civil war history and strolling through a beautiful historic cemetery in the Fall, then you don’t want to miss this tour! The tour will highlight 9 residents of Champaign County who participated in the Civil War. The tour will include stories of soldiers who served in the various Ohio infantries and other State infantries. Some highlights will include a Medal of Honor winner and two slaves who upon becoming free enlisted in the war. You will also learn the history behind the Civil War Monument that is central to this beautiful cemetery, along with a tour of the great mausoleum which is normally closed to the public.
The tour will be led by Civil War historian Jared Shank.
