This month, join Dr. Alexandria Lockett for a two-day exploration of how Wikipedia editing affects knowledge production about the arts of rhetoric, composition, and literacy. She will provide plenty of hands-on support and resources throughout the event.

On Day 1, Dr. Lockett will deliver a presentation that addresses three main topics: the emergence of new technologies and data, inclusive citation practices, and strategies for integrating knowledge communities across space and time. After the talk, participants will be trained on how to edit Wikipedia by Savannah Cragin, the CCCC Wikipedian-in-Residence. There will be opportunities to improve and create Wikipedia articles related to pivotal scholars and scholarship on rhetoric, composition, and literacy.

On Day 2, all participants will be able to begin or continue editing an article(s) of their choice, as well as identify specific projects and practices that they plan to integrate into their teaching, research, and/or community engagement.

About the Speaker:

Alexandria Lockett, Ph.D., is an independent scholar and legal recruiter with a passion for teaching and learning explicitly about knowledge production, especially as it relates to Self, society, communication, language, and technology. In addition, Dr. Lockett publishes about the subject. She is the lead author of Race, Rhetoric, and Research Methods (WAC Clearinghouse, April 2021) and co-editor of Learning From the Lived Experiences of Graduate Student Writers (Utah State University Press, May 2020, Winner of the 2021 International Writing Center Association Outstanding Book Award). Her research also appears in various academic journals such as Composition Studies, Enculturation, SPUR, and Praxis, as well as the following book collections: Wikipedia @ 20: An Incomplete Revolution (MIT Press), Humans at Work in the Digital Age (Routledge), Out in the Center (Utah State University Press), and Black Perspectives on Writing Program Administration: From the Margins to the Center (SWR Press).

All comp/rhet scholars are welcome no matter their level of experience with Wikipedia. This event is limited to 20 participants.
