This month, Erin Green, a graduate student at the University of Maryland studying abolition in literacy and composition studies, and Dr. Elise Dixon, an assistant professor of English and the writing center director at the University of North Carolina at Pembroke will have a conversation about contextualizing their research with activists, the ever-growing anti-LGBTQ legislation, and the general state of queer activist research.

After the talk, participants will be trained on how to edit Wikipedia. There will be opportunities to improve and create Wikipedia articles related to pivotal scholars and scholarship on queer activism in rhetoric and writing studies.

About the Speakers:

Erin Green (she/they) is a doctoral candidate in Language, Writing, and Rhetoric at the University of Maryland. Erin specializes in literacy studies, writing program administration, community writing, and composition theory. Her research primarily examines the literacy practices, such as storytelling, in prison/police abolitionist movements.

Elise Dixon is an Assistant Professor of English and writing center director at the University of North Carolina at Pembroke. Drawing from cultural and queer rhetorics, she focuses her research on how marginalized communities compose together as a world-building practice. Her scholarship has appeared in The Peer Review Journal, The Journal of Veteran Studies, The Writing Lab Newsletter, and many book chapters.

This is an interactive workshop. There will be opportunities for discussion, questions, and live editing.

All comp/rhet scholars are welcome no matter their level of experience with Wikipedia. This event is limited to 20 participants.
