Join us at 12pm CT where social worker Anita Raymond from Volunteers for America will talk about Guardianship. Is it Necessary for People Living with Dementia? What is guardianship? Can we avoid it? Should we avoid it? Caregivers of people living with dementia may believe guardianship is required when the care recipient is no longer able to understand their situation. But they may not realize that it is an expensive, time-consuming process that can be avoided by planning in advance of need. This session will discuss the basics of guardianship and conservatorship, whether it’s necessary, risk factors for guardianship, and planning tools that families can employ to avoid court intervention. Attendees will also be introduced to the concept of supported decision making and the resources available from the Center for Excellence in Supported Decision Making.
