Captain’s Course at The Landing School

Set your course toward a professional maritime career with the Captain’s Course at The Landing School. Whether your goal is running private charters, skippering sailboats, or captaining ferries and whale watch vessels, this program prepares you with the knowledge and credentials to take the helm.
Course Details
Dates: October 15 – February 13
Schedule: Mondays & Wednesdays, 4:00–6:00 p.m. (in-person only)
Winter Break: December 17 – January 16 (catch-up time available)
Location: The Landing School, Arundel, ME

Cost:
$1,275 – OUPV (Operator of Uninspected Passenger Vessel)
$1,750 – Combined OUPV & Master’s License
(Costs exclude on-the-water time. Testing held at course end. Additional sessions may be scheduled for weather closures.)
Licensing Options
- OUPV License (“6-Pack”) – Carry up to 6 passengers on vessels up to 100 gross tons. Perfect for charter boats, sailboats, and excursions.
- Master’s License – Required for inspected passenger vessels, carrying more than 6 passengers. Opens career paths on larger vessels including ferries and whale watch boats, with tonnage limits of 25, 50, or 100 GT depending on experience.
