Campus Threat Assessment: An In-Depth Expert Q&A

In response to overwhelming audience requests for more information on campus threat assessment, Campus Public Safety Online welcomes back Marisa Randazzo, Ph.D., CEO and co-founder of SIGMA Threat Management Associates, LLC and international expert on threat assessment, targeted violence, and violence prevention; and Jeffrey J. Nolan, J.D., attorney with Dinse P.C. and nationally known for his practice in threat assessment, Title IX, the Clery Act, and FERPA.

This special 90-minute Q&A session is an opportunity for registered participants to submit questions and hear answers on campus threat assessment issues. The deadline for those wishing to submit questions in advance is Tuesday, April 23, 2019 at 1:00 PM ET.  You are encouraged to submit questions about threat assessment-related issues such as:

• threats that affect your greater campus community
• the workings of your campus threat assessment teams
• the threat assessment process
• behavioral threat assessment
• the impact of the high-profile incidents on your threat assessment program
• involvement or information-sharing between Title IX investigations and campus threat assessment cases

• any other questions related to campus threat assessment

Questions can be submitted when you complete the registration process. Please note, not all submitted questions will be selected for use during the webinar. Additional questions and comments from the live audience will also be addressed during the webinar.

In addition to her work at SIGMA, Marisa Randazzo currently serves as director of threat assessment for Georgetown University. Previously, Marisa served for 10 years with the U.S. Secret Service, most recently as the agency's chief research psychologist. Among her various responsibilities, she co-directed the Safe School Initiative, the landmark federal study of school shootings that was conducted jointly by the U.S. Secret Service and U.S. Department of Education. She is co-author of two leading books on threat assessment: The Handbook for Campus Threat Assessment and Management Teams (2008) and Implementing Behavioral Threat Assessment on Campus: A Virginia Tech Demonstration Project (2009). Both books are referenced as best-practice resources in several federal guides on emergency planning and in an American National Standard.

Jeff Nolan is Chair of Dinse’s Education Practice Group and is licensed to practice law in Massachusetts, New York, Texas, and Vermont. He has more than 25 years of experience in representing clients, including colleges and universities, in federal and state courts, and before administrative agencies such as the Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights and the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. He regularly educates higher education and human resources professionals throughout the country on best and promising practices in Title IX/Clery Act compliance, trauma-informed fair investigations of Title IX/Clery Act-related matters, threat assessment and management, ADA issues, and other higher education and employment law issues. Jeff is a highly-requested speaker and trainer who regularly contributes to the UVM Legal Issues in Higher Education Conference, EduRisk from United Educators, Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services Trauma-Informed Investigation and Adjudication program, and more.
