Will we only be looking at birds?

Mostly, we are doing a Bird Count and focusing on birds. However, we generally talk about plants, mammals, herps, invertebrates, and other parts of the natural environment in a more holistic way.

LushNature 2025 Fall Wildlife!

Mount Diablo Camping Trip Whipsnakes and Golden Eagles — Fall Preparers (Chaparral)

September 27 - 28, 2025

Loose Itinerary:

Saturday 9/27

Drive up and set camp (1-4pm).

Evening twilight hike (4-7pm).

(Bring Your Own) Dinner (7-8pm).

Camping Saturday night (9-6:30am Sleep = 9.5 hours).

Sunday 9/28

Sunday Morning Nature Hike and Bird Count (7-10am).

(Bring Your Own) Brunch (10-11am).

Pack up camp (12 noon).

Drive around the rest of the park or straight home Sunday afternoon (12-3pm).

Seven people max. $130 per person (includes cost of campsite).

Bring: Tent, sleeping bag, cushions, pillow, layers, food, drink, and water. Binoculars, sun hat, and warm hat, gloves.

The regular September LushNature Nature Walk and Bird Count will take place on Sunday morning 9/28 at Mount Diablo, for anybody who didn’t camp but still wants to join the bird count, you're encouraged to do so.
