CALLING THE CURIOUS, KEEN, & PURPOSE DRIVEN
Join us for a tour and conversation led by healthcare innovator, HBN Co-Founder, and Executive Director Tara Sundem, NP.
This will prove to be an Illuminating DEI outreach salon when we visit Hushabye Nursery(HBN) on Thursday, October 23rd , 5PM-6:30PM.
DONATIONS: As a way that we can give-back to our community partners (familiar and unfamiliar to us), our visit will include a call for needed baby/family supplies for HBN families.
The biggest need is always diapers, and they need sizes from newborn up to size 6. Wipes are also a hot commodity!
Context: The event’s primary purpose is to increase our members, particularly medical providers and executives, knowledge and awareness of HBN’s existence and the forward-thinking care HBN offers. By doing so, we can increase patient access and better outcomes for patients and patient access to healthcare through increased HBN referrals.
HBN is a medical nursery for babies experiencing neonatal withdrawal syndrome. Their treatment interventions strive to reduce the use of methadone for the neonate. And, evidence shows the HBN method works. Babies at HBN received 8-12 fewer doses of methadone vs babies in a traditional hospital NICU. Additionally, HBN parents struggling with substance use disorders (SUD) are not-judged but welcomed by also receiving therapy while staying with their newborn at HBN. This is critical because most parents with a SUD don’t seek addiction therapy for fear of automatically losing their parental rights. This really makes HBN unique-removes shame, stigma and promotes getting help--there is no other such healthcare center in AZ.
The cost of this event is free. But, what can our chapter do at the practical level to help support HBN---that is why we created the diaper drive. HBN will share their expertise and we will reciprocate by donating supplies. The donations will serve as a metaphor for the “cost of attending” and are a secondary event purpose.
