Calling Men to More

What are men good for? Why did God create men? Is masculinity really toxic?

In today’s culture, the role of men has become increasingly unclear. Our society desperately needs the biblical vision of manhood restored so that men walking in their God-given role in the home, marriage, and community becomes normal again.

Brant Hansen offers a refreshing definition of manhood that captures God’s purpose for men.

“People deconstruct masculinity all the time,” Brant said. “We are to be protectors and cultivators of our sphere of influence. People should feel secure, grow, and bloom because we are there.”

Men were created to live with purpose in their homes, marriages, and communities. True masculinity is not just the stereotype of a rugged adventurer but something far more life giving. If the Church can show that men are called to protect and provide not only physically and financially but also emotionally, mentally, and spiritually, men will find clarity and excitement about who they were created to be.

When men embrace this calling, they become life giving husbands, fathers, and leaders. Teaching boys what manhood looks like builds men who strengthen their homes and contribute to society. Some men boast about defending their homes from an intruder with a weapon. But as Brant points out, “Most of the time the intruder is me with my words, my tone, my sarcasm, or my silence.”

As marriage leaders, we have an opportunity to paint a compelling picture of what men are designed to be in a culture full of confusion. Our world is hurting and waiting for men to rise to their purpose. When men walk in it, everyone in their sphere of influence thrives.

Join us for this up close and personal conversation on how our marriages, culture, and communities desperately need men to live out all they were created to be.
