Calligraphy Course at St. Canice’s Cathedral

Join artist Julie Moorhouse for this six-week Calligraphy course at St. Canice’s Cathedral and Round Tower! Julie will lead participants through the fundamentals of Calligraphy, focusing on the Cathedral’s abundance of typefaces found etched in stone.
Particular attention will be paid to The Red Book of Ossory, a 14th century manuscript written by Bishop Ledrede. A facsimile of the Red Book of Ossory will be available for participants to study. This facsimile will allow for closer examination of authentic techniques, period accurate stitching and the study of the beautiful typography, recreated by Calligraphy expert, Timothy O’Neill.
Julie’s creative and inspiring approach to the course will ensure that participants learn the key foundational steps in Calligraphy, developing an understanding for its various forms and historical background.
The course will run every Thursday afternoon from 3 – 5pm from 23rd October – 27th November.
