About this event

When God calls, it's not about where you've been -- it's about where you are willing to go. In this one-hour live gathering via zoom, join me for a mindful discussion on trusting God, in the midst of your doubts and limitations.

Following Hurricane Katrina and the catastrophic flooding in New Orleans, I felt a call to act with my PhD and expertise in Management Science. My efforts became a full-blown field campaign within neighborhoods to show the state of rebuilding by address, providing clarity of what was needed where and for whom during the recovery.

As I recounted in my published book chapter called, Is God Greater Then Tenure?, the unspoken catalyst for the field campaign, which suddenly had groups of volunteers that spread rapidly through neighborhoods, wasn't my expertise. And initially, I lacked the team, the budget, and a plan to even imagine surveying house-to-house (8 square miles, 22 neighborhoods, and 15,000 addresses) in 32 days.

The source of my courage and direction, to respond to the moment with the call that I had, during severe trials taking place in my life at the same time, came through the beginning of a walk with God.

In this one-hour session, I am sharing what I have learned about such walks, in the interactive, facilitating form I practiced as a university professor (Rice University, Dartmouth College, Rutgers University). My aim is to create an environment for you to connect with the call on your life, so that you can begin (or continue) the next steps on your own walk with God.

Frequently asked questions

Why is the suggested donation $25?

Because if you are one of several people to donate $25, it will cover the ad costs for this event. If this event appeals to you, even (especially) if you can't attend, please share online (and tell somebody) to extend the reach.

Why am I doing this event now?

I have started and shared conversations about this (answering your call to act), in different ways, on many different occasions, over many years. Now, I'm called to bring this conversation to more people, beyond those I know and who already know me. To places distant from where I am or have been.

Am I currently a member of a church?

Yes, The Congregational Church of Christian Fellowship, Los Angeles, CA. https://www.christianfellowshipla.org. Previously, I was a member (and a founding trustee) of Open Door Worship Center, Jersey City, NJ, and a member of Wellspring Worship Center, West Lebanon, NH.

An example of the way that I care

I came home to Los Angeles to be caregiver for my mother, for several years until she passed last year, holding back from personal and career desires, trusting that honoring her would somehow not mean forfeiting myself. It hasn't at all. Being able to care for my mom was and is a blessing.

Will there be further events like this planned?

Yes. This particular event and format, I expect to do again in the coming weeks, contingent on the level of interest and my schedule. I am also doing similar events on the theme of How to Make a Difference This Summer, which are fundamentally rooted in my organization science (not faith) experience.
