Cabernet Sauvignon Around the World

Overview

Learn about Cabernet Sauvignon from around the world and enjoy three great examples!

You asked for it, and you got it: an event focused on the king of wine, Cabernet Sauvignon!

In addition to tasting three great expressions of Cabernet, we will learn about its history, how it tastes differently depending on where it is grown, food pairing suggestions, and much more!

We are going to start with a wine from what many experts consider the home of Cabernet Sauvignon: Bordeaux, France, specifically the Left Bank.  I will be opening a 2021 Chateau La Tour de Bessan Margaux ($29.99 before discounts at Total Wine and available at other wine retailers and online).  If you are unable to find it, feel free to substitute any wine from Margaux, and if that is not possible, Saint-Estephe, Pauillac, or Saint-Julien, and if that is not possible, Pessac-Leognan or Graves.  If you want to pair some foods, try grilled beef (grilled mushrooms for vegetarians) with Blue Cheese or Aged Gouda.

We will then try a Cabernet from the southern hemisphere: Catena Cabernet Sauvignon ($25.99 before discounts at Total Wine, available at other wine retailers and online).  If you are unable to find this wine, feel free to substitute any Argentine Cabernet Sauvignon.  If you want to pair some foods for the event, try grilled steak, beef short ribs, pasta, or lasagna with meat sauce or mushroom sauce, grilled portobello, or Manchego.

No cabernet comparison would be complete without a cabernet from Napa. I will be opening a Frank Family Cabernet Napa ($44.99 before discounts at Total Wine, available at other wine retailers and online).  If you can’t find this wine, feel free to substitute any Napa Cabernet with just the Napa designation.  If you would like to pair some food with it, try ribeye, prime rib, Pot Roast, BBQ beef ribs, Smoked Brisket, grilled portobello, and aged cheddar.

Open each of these wines 90 minutes before the event and try to serve them at about 60 degrees.

The event is free to attend, but gratuities via Venmo, Zoom, and PayPal to gasperthewineguy@gmail.com are accepted and appreciated.

I will be online at least 15 minutes before the event to answer any questions or chat.

Hope to see you at the event!
