About this event

Computing at the Intersection of Geometry and Data

Geometric reasoning is a fundamental ingredient when formulating computational techniques in a variety domains. In low dimensions, geometry is the key piece of software for computer graphics, computer vision, image processing, and other domains that need to understand the 3D world. In high dimensions, geometry is used to reason about the structure of datasets, which cut out complex shapes in abstract spaces. In this talk, Justin will share some recent efforts from our team in MIT CSAIL to develop algorithms dealing with geometry problems from 3 dimensions to N dimensions, with applications to 3D modeling and data science. Bridging the divide between low and high dimensions will provide mutual insights to problems on both sides.

About Byte Bites

Byte Bites are informal gatherings open to CSAIL Alliances members and students who would like to attend a discussion on a current project. Most lunches or afternoon teas will feature a Faculty Researcher but a few will feature a PhD student, post-doc or Research Scientist.
