Join the USGBC-CA Building Decarbonization Committee to share, learn, and collaborate in the sustainability movement!

Join the Building Decarb Committee 9/2, 12pm - 1pm, for a guest speaker presentation on California's Wood Supply Chain!

From Forest to Frame: Growing California’s In-State Wood Supply Chain to Meet Building Decarbonization Goals

This session highlights the potential for in-state wood products to meet built environment decarbonization goals, create more wildfire-resilient forests, and strengthen regional economies. Attendees will learn about, and discuss, efforts by the Watershed Research & Training Center to increase in-state capacity and demand, infrastructure being developed in Sonoma County to increase manufacturing volume of wood products, and innovative wood products such as nail-laminated timber (NLT) made from small-diameter timber by Forestree Collective.

Speakers:

Clarke Stevenson | Wood Enterprise Lead, Watershed Research & Training Center

Specifying California-manufactured wood products can directly support climate-smart forestry, improve embodied carbon in buildings, and strengthen local economies. Clarke will share insights from his statewide work advancing these efforts.

Temra Costa | Director, Regenerative Forest Solutions | Co-founder, Timbershed

Meeting California’s wildfire resilience and decarbonization goals requires an increase in local processing infrastructure that can convert excess wood from our forests into building materials. Temra will present the “Timbershed” wood campus initiative in Sonoma County, a public-private partnership working to expand regional manufacturing capacity.

Jeremy Fisher | CEO, Forestree Collective | Co-founder, Timbershed

With decades of experience in net-zero energy construction, prefabrication, and wood product manufacturing, Jeremy will showcase Forestree Collective’s efforts to develop furniture and nail-laminated timber (NLT) using small-diameter timber. He will discuss how regional networks and scalable, innovative products like NLT can expand architects’ options for carbon-smart building materials.
