Build Your Own Online Lab with Volunteer Science
Fri, April 21, 2017, 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM EDT
Volunteer Science is a platform for conducting research with human subjects through lab experiments, serious games, or citizen science. It offers facilities for researchers to create online studies involving human subjects and to recruit subjects from anywhere in the world. In this session, we provide an overview of the online laboratory and the battery of studies we replicated to validate the platform. We then walk participants through the process of creating their own lab space and research team on the website and creating, testing, and running studies with both volunteers and workers on Mechanical Turk.
1:00-2:00: Introduction- Why perform research with subjects online, what you can do, and the strengths and weaknesses of the online laboratory.
2:00-2:30: Demo - how to create your own game in Volunteer Science
2:30-4:00 (or later as needed): Tutorial - Hands-on support for creating your own study on Volunteer Science.
