About this event

As the 19th century came to a close, Brooklyn Heights stood at the edge of a rapidly changing city, its quiet streets home to sea captains, writers, and reformers navigating a world in flux. While the neighborhood’s elegance has endured, so have the eerie details tucked beneath the surface — strange carvings, lost passageways, and stories that never made it into the guidebooks. Get ready for a twilight stroll through the overlooked, uncanny, and quietly unsettling corners of one of New York’s most historic enclaves.

Join New York Adventure Club for a late-day walk through Brooklyn Heights, with a focus on how the neighborhood transforms at sunset — as the light fades, its quiet streets and historic architecture take on a more mysterious tone, making it the perfect backdrop for stories of the strange, shadowy, and long-forgotten.

Led by NYC Licensed Guide Marc Catapano, our unique experience will include:

  • A walk through quiet streets, hidden alleys, and cul-de-sacs that reveal the neighborhood’s more atmospheric side
  • A look at Gothic Revival churches, eerie architectural details, and rumored secret tunnels tucked behind 19th-century facades
  • Stories of Brooklyn Heights legends, from lost cemeteries and secret societies to ghost sightings and wartime espionage
  • An exploration of the area’s literary history, including how Brooklyn helped fuel H.P. Lovecraft’s most paranoid creations
  • A sweeping view of Manhattan from the Promenade during sunset

Part historical, philosophical, and spooky, this experience is perfect for fans of the weird, the wonderful, and the in-between.

See you there!

*Please bring a water bottle and comfortable pair of shoes as we’ll be doing a lot of walking!

**This tour concludes at the Montague Street entrance to the Brooklyn Heights Promenade, a short walk from the Clark St (2/3), High St (A/C), and Court St–Borough Hall (R/2/3/4/5) stations — and steps from great pizza on Montague Street.
