On the evenings of July 23, 24, 30, & 31, Long Now will be hosting a Brian Eno album listening event at The Interval in celebration of the Apollo 11 lunar landing 50th anniversary.

50 years ago, on July 20th 01969, Apollo 11 landed on the moon. At the time, Long Now co-founder Brian Eno thought the gravitas of the moment was undercut by the excessive news commentary and patriotic overtones, and wanted to create a soundtrack that befit the beauty and strangeness of the event. His 01983 album Apollo: Atmospheres and Soundtracks was created specifically for the Apollo 11 footage. In commemoration of the lunar landing 50th anniversary, Brian Eno is releasing a remastered and expanded version of the album in collaboration with Daniel Lanois and Roger Eno with 11 new tracks.

You are invited to The Interval to listen to the remastered album on our Meyer Sound System. We will also be showing footage from the Apollo missions, as well as serving a special mini menu of cocktails inspired by the album.

Tickets are $20 and are expected to go quickly. The event will take place four times on July 23, 24, 30, 31.

Doors are at 9pm each night, with the main listening starting at 9:30pm.

We'll begin the evening with a short contextualization of Apollo 11, Eno's album, and the historic footage before playing the album. During the 50 minutes runtime of the album, we ask that everyone remains silent to allow for full audience immersion in the soundscapes, images and marking of this 50 year anniversary. We will provide notecards and pens so that you can order at the bar or share notes and observations with friends in the audience.
