Ready to begin your natural soap-making journey but not sure where to start? This relaxing 2.5 hour beginner soap class is the perfect creative experience for individuals interested in learning how to professionally create natural and aromatic bars without the use of synthetic fragrances, colors and additives. We're leaping over the learning curve in an engaged, simplified and fun way so that you leave prepared, knowledgeable and equipped with tools to create successful batches of soaps on your own.

You’ll learn how to properly and safely make and scent soap containing delicate essential oils and organic carriers using the cold-process soap-making method. Cold-process is a gentle traditional method of making soap that preserves ingredient nutrients and purity without the addition of heat. You’ll be guided by Brenda Brown, an experienced artisan soap maker specialized in creating non-toxic soaps using natural herbs, florals, oils and clays. Soap-making is a useful science and therapeutic process that promotes balance and she is passionate about teaching this life-long skill.

This interactive class is held with a maximum participation of 4 makers to ensure that you grasp all the informational steps at your own pace, in a relaxed environment, and with room to connect with like-minded makers. Let’s take an afternoon to interrupt stress and get hands-on as we create something special using all-natural ingredients. Join in! *vegan friendly soaps

WHAT YOU’LL BE LEARNING:

• The cold-process method. A traditional method of making soap.
• How to professionally create natural and aromatic bars without the use of synthetic fragrances, colors and additives.
• How to properly and effectively scent soap containing delicate essential oils using basic perfumery.
• Properties of organic carrier oils and how they behave in soap.
• Proper lye and essential oil mixing safety. Plus, curing, unmolding, cutting and storage practices.
• Essential soap-making supplies and where to source them.
• How to use a lye calculator to formulate your own inspired recipes at home.

WHAT TO BRING:

You'll be provided with all the protective gear and materials needed for class. We just ask that you bring or wear a long sleeve shirt and closed-toed shoes.

MINIMUM AGE:

18 years. We’ll be using strong caustic lye which is designed for use by adults.

ABOUT BRENDA:

I have been crafting natural body care for 13+ years and find the process to be a creative and therapeutic journey. Switching from commercial to natural soaps has been beneficial for my skin and well-being. However, I noticed that some naturally labeled soaps were made with synthetic fragrances, which overwhelmed my senses. I set out to create bars that were true to their natural scents and therapeutic. Essential oils can be adaptogenic and work with your nervous system to achieve overall balance in the body. They also smell amazing! I’ve faced some challenges and wins with using solely essential oils. I’ll provide my best advice to help you avoid some costly mistakes and give you the confidence you need to begin your truly natural soap-making journey!

Your ticket reserves your class seat(s). Cancellation requests made at least 7 days in advance of class start are eligible for a partial refund. Requests made less than 7 days prior to the start of class can be rescheduled for a later available class date. No call/no shows are non-refundable and cannot be rescheduled.
