What to expect:
Free yourself from distractions by putting your phone on silent and giving full focus to the journey ahead.
Posture/Comforts
Lying down is best on a comfortable floor or yoga mat
Head flat on the floor or a small pillow behind the head for comfort
You don't want a pillow that forces neck to close up
Refraining from a large meal at least 30-45 before breath work
An eye pillow helps to allow the body to fully drop into the experience
Common Physical Sensations
Vibrations, tingling, some light headedness(temporary), feelings of “floating”
Cramping in the face or hands
Medical term for this is tetany, you may hear it referred to as “lobster claws” - it’s caused by the imbalance of CO2 and O2 in the body and blood which causes the blood to become more alkaline( last about 3-4 hours).
The harder you exhale the more that the hands can tighten and cramp - it’s important for the exhale to be a simple letting go of the breath and not forced in any way for this reason.
Recommendations for Safe Practice:
Please consult a healthcare professional if you have any pre-existing health conditioins, such as cardiovascular, sleep paralysis, or mental health issues, should consult a doctor before performing breathwork. Stop if you feel any discomfort or distress.
