Breaking the Silence: An Oral History of LGBTQ+ Veterans and Service Members
Join Washington County Veteran Services and the Oregon Department of Veterans’ Affairs’ LGBTQ+ Veteran Program on Saturday, June 21 at the Beaverton City Library for an unforgettable afternoon of film, conversation, and community connection.
Breaking the Silence is a groundbreaking oral history project and documentary film chronicling the lived experiences of five LGBTQ+ Oregonians who served in the U.S. military under policies that sought to hide or erase their identities. These veterans chose to serve in silence—risking their careers, freedom, and lives. Now, they are breaking the silence.
🎬 The event will include:
- A screening of the film
- A live panel discussion featuring LGBTQ+ veterans
- A community social & meet and greet with local Veteran Service Officers, ODVA's LGBTQ+ Veteran Coordinator, panelists, and guests
