About this event

  • Event lasts 1 hour

We pick up our phones to feel connected and happy—but often walk away feeling more anxious, distracted, and mentally drained.

In this science-informed, thought-provoking workshop, we’ll explore how social media fuels rumination, and what that means for your mental, emotional, and even physical health. You’ll learn how certain patterns of scrolling activate default-mode brain networks tied to overthinking, self-comparison, and stress—and how to break free from the cycle.

With practical strategies, simple neuroscience, and actionable tools, this session will help you create a more intentional, healthy relationship with social media—without needing to delete every app.

What you’ll learn:

  • What rumination is and how it keeps your brain stuck in loops of worry, comparison, and regret
  • The roles of key brain areas in overthinking and social media use
  • How social platforms are designed to encourage repetitive, negative thought patterns—and what that does to your brain and body
  • The emotional and physical health risks of chronic rumination—including anxiety, sleep problems, and chronic stress

What you’ll experience:

  • Reflection exercises to identify your personal “scrolling triggers”
  • Science-backed but jargon-free tools like:
  • Reframing thoughts
  • Letting go of outcome-based thinking
  • Digital time boundaries
  • Mindful tech use
  • Journaling to reduce anxiety and self-judgment

What you’ll walk away with:

  • A clear understanding of how social media affects your thoughts, emotions, and brain
  • Tools to reduce overthinking and reclaim focus, confidence, and calm
  • A sustainable strategy to use social media on purpose—not on autopilot

This isn’t about quitting social media. It’s about using it on your terms.
