Juneteenth celebrates the official emancipation of enslaved people in Texas on June 19, 1865, marking the end of slavery in the United States. It's a commemoration of the news of freedom reaching Galveston, Texas, two years after the Emancipation Proclamation and after the end of the Civil War.
