About this event

Join us for a discursive exploration of the botany of settler colonialism.

We'll cover a brief history of the European colonization of the Americas through the lense of the environment . We'll discuss colonization as a "geomorphic force", affecting all aspects of land including people, plants and animals.

Well also unpack the semantics behind scientific classifications of plant invasiveness as it relates to urban living, and the complicated ways science can become an accomplice of the forces of colonialism.

The Old Stone House & Washington Park is a historic house museum, a Revolutionary War battle site, and the original home of the Brooklyn Dodgers. We are also a neighborhood cultural institution focused on connecting the past to the present through educational, environmental, and arts programming all year round.
