Event description
Join IEB's stop on the Border to Border with Love relay to create a pro-immigrant, anti-hate collage

About this Event

Congress must hear us loud and clear telling them to #DefundHate. Join us on September 10th at 1440 Broadway, Suite 610, Oakland, CA at 5:30PM to communicate our demand to Congress to take true action to stop funding hate and cruelty by reducing ICE & CBP budget to 2016 levels; eliminating their ability to steal funds from other agencies, and voting no on any Appropriations Bill or Continuing Resolution that doesn’t include these two items.

We'll be gathering to create a collage of pro-immigrant, anti-hate messages to combine and send to the final Border to Border with Love event in San Diego, where Native, Indivisible and local leaders will gather for a rally to #DefundHate. We will also write postcards and letters to the editor and learn about other ways we can support this cause.

Date: Tuesday September 10

Time: 5:30-7:30pm

Location: IFPTE Local 21 Oakland Office, 1440 Broadway, Suite 610, Oakland, CA at 5:30PM

Also, please donate to our partners at Centro Legal de La Raza (https://www.centrolegal.org) to support legal aid to immigrants and assistance to families of detained immigrants.

If you're unable to make this event, you can still submit material to the collage! We have several options for getting the creative messages to us.

1. Find us at Oakland Pride on Sunday Sept 8 (details and RSVP: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/oakland-pride-parade-and-festival-2019-tickets-58184325885)

2. Any time (during open hours) between 12pm Wednesday 9/4 and 12pm Tuesday 9/10, leave them in our drop box at the Rockridge branch of 1951 Coffee (6021 College Ave, Oakland)

3. Any time (during open hours) between 12pm Thursday 9/4 and 12pm Tuesday 9/10, leave them in our drop box at Sports Basement (2727 Milvia St, Berkeley)

4.. Contact us at info@indivisibleEB.org if none of these options work for you and we will do our best to make alternate arrangements such as a meet up point or mailing address

We also need volunteers to help with various small and medium sized tasks. Please contact us if you want to get more involved!

Thank Yous:

A huge thank you to our partners at 1951 Coffee (https://1951coffee.com)  who are  hosting our drop box. 1951 Coffee Company, founded in 2015, is a non-profit specialty coffee organization that promotes the well-being of the refugee community in the United States by providing job training and employment to refugees, asylees, and special immigrant visa holders while educating the surrounding community about refugee life and issues. Ways to support them include: purchasing a cup of coffee in their cafes, buying or gifting their merchandise and whole bean coffees online, donating to support their services like the Barista Training Program, or by volunteering at one of their open houses.

Thank you to Sports Basement, Berkeley (https://shop.sportsbasement.com/pages/store-berkeley) for hosting our other drop box. (And so many of our other meetings!)

And thank you to the International Federation of Professional and Technical Engineers (IFPTE) Local 21 (https://www.ifpte21.org/) for letting us use their space to assemble our collage.
