Bootstrap :: CSPdWeek 2017

Bootstrap returns to the second annual CSPdWeek! This summer, thanks to the generosity of the Infosys Foundation USA, NCWIT and the CSTA, we are able to fund up to 80 teachers to attend PD sessions on Bootstrap:Algebra and Bootstrap:Reactive, as well as the first-ever PD on our brand-new Bootstrap:DataScience course!

Acceptance letters will be sent out during the month of April. If you have not yet recieved yours, please do NOT register for the event!

If you've been accepted...

1) Please have your principal sign the support letter you recieved with your acceptance, and send it to us by email at OR by fax at (855) 771-0251.

2) Make sure you are able to attend the entire 5-day PD track, from 9am July 17 to 1pm on July 21nd. If you are unable to attend the entire session, you will not be able to attend CSPdWeek.

3) Get packing! You'll need to bring a laptop computer, and something to write with. We will be providing shared dorm-style housing and all meals from Monday morning to Friday afternoon. If you'd like to pay for your own room at a hotel, that's okay too! Just let us know.

4) Confirm that you are able to attend by purchasing a ticket here, for $50. This will be returned to you after CSPdWeek, in the form of a small stipend.

Booking Travel

Once we've received your registration and a copy of the letter from your principal, we will connect you to the travel agency to book your flight. All tickets are pre-paid, so you'll simply need to provide your full name, date of birth, gender, departure city and (optionally) your frequent-flyer number.

CSPdWeek is shaping up to be the largest cross-curricular PD event in CS Education history! We're incredibly excited, and we can't wait to work with you!

What is Bootstrap?

At Bootstrap, we craft research-based curricular modules for grades 6-12. Our materials reinforce core concepts from algebra, enabling non-CS teachers to adopt our introductory materials while delivering rigorous and engaging computing content drawn from CS classes at universities like Brown, WPI, and Northeastern.

Our introductory class can be integrated into a standalone CS or mainstream math class, and aligns with national and state math standards. And since every child takes math - regardless of gender or background - Bootstrap is one of the largest providers of formal CS education to girls and students of color nationwide.

Our other modules explore programming with data structures, physics, lightweight data science, and AP CS Principles. Teachers can mix-and-match content across various modules to fit their needs.

By leveraging the existing network of math teachers, nationwide, Bootstrap is built to scale. We work with school districts across the country, reaching hundreds of teachers and thousands of students each year. Most of our teachers have also attended a Bootstrap Workshop, where they received specialized training to deliver the class.

Isn’t all programming mathematical?

There are lots of great programming languages out there, but their computational model makes them a poor choice for teaching algebra. Bootstrap uses a language that is actually algebraic, offering rich functionality for animation and multimedia without compromising real, mathematical learning.
