Bookbinding Workshop

Join us at Crow Atelier for an intermediate level bookbinding workshop led by Kent Bindery! Learn how to create handmade hardcover double coptic books from scratch. This workshop details the double coptic bookbinding process, including bone folding, awl hole-punching, hand sewn binding, beading, cover making, gluing and book pressing.

About the Workshop:

Students will learn the double coptic bookbinding technique! The paper used for the textblock is FSC certified Neenah linen writing paper, ideal for use with fountain pens and light watercolor– while remaining compatible with pencil, ballpoint and dry media! The paper used for creating our hardcovers is Nepalese Lokta paper, a sustainably handmade plant paper with over 3000 years of history.

Students will be able to personalize their book with a choice of lokta paper patterns/colors, a choice of two thread color combinations, a selection of beads from Fire Mountain Gems, and the option of adding a ribbon bookmark to their book.

Each student will take home one book. Your handmade book is ideal for a variety of creative uses-- suggestions include drawing, sketching, scrapbooking, note taking, travel, and more!

This class teaches bookbinding with premium handmade paper, rulers, scissors, curved bookbinding needles, beads, ribbon, waxed bookbinding thread, and a bookbinding press. All materials are provided.

This workshop is intermediate level friendly. Bookbinding requires the use of tools like sewing needles, awls and scissors. Fine motor skills required!

Materials included:

In class access: Paper, rulers, awls, waxed thread, beads, ribbon, sewing needles, glue, bone folders, scissors, cutting board press.

Take home: Materials list, instruction booklet, one finished book

Students are welcome to bring any tools or materials of their own to use in class!
