Stereotypes about the British military during the American Revolution are countless, and often contradictory. Did England possess the most professional fighting force in the world, or did they bumble through New England, clinging tightly to outdated tactics while shrewd farmers rewrote the rules around them? Historian Andrew O’Shaughnessy untangles this web by following several prominent British leaders, including George III himself, to reveal the real competence, as well as the human folly, of the Crown and its representatives. Join us for a lively discussion, lead by British military reenactor and historian Paul O'Shaughnessy, on The Men Who Lost America.

Reading Into History: Book Chats is a series of informal discussions of historical topics inspired by nonfiction history books, and led by authors, historians, and local history enthusiasts. All are welcome; reading the book is not required, but will enhance the experience!
