💫What is Butterflies N Effect

Butterflies N Effect (BNE) is more than an afterschool program — it’s a safe, empowering virtual village where middle school students can grow academically, emotionally, and socially. We focus on nurturing brilliance in Black and Brown youth through Social-Emotional Learning (SEL), STEM education, and mentorship — all in a joyful, creative, and culturally relevant space.

✨ Weekly Program Breakdown:

Tuesdays – SEL & Leadership Development

🧠 Topics include: emotional intelligence, resilience, healthy communication, identity, and self-worth.

Students engage in activities, games, and discussions that build confidence, empathy, and life skills.

Thursdays – STEM Exploration & Guest Mentors

🔬 Hands-on virtual activities in science, technology, math, and cultural history — led by passionate educators and guest experts from various fields.

🗣️ Parent Support Included!

Parents are invited to attend monthly workshops led by licensed family therapist Anna Thomas. These sessions help parents understand the emotional needs of tweens/teens and strengthen family communication.

🎉 Monthly Family Experiences & Outings

Though our program is virtual, we build in real-world joy through monthly family outings and service days including:

• 🏡 Youth Led Community Service Projects
• 🦴 South Suburban Humane Society volunteering
• 🦋 Field Museum visit
• 🍽️ Family night out events… and more!

🎓 Our Year Ends with a Signature Event:
Butterflies Rites of Passage Ceremony – May 2026

A beautiful celebration of each student’s growth and journey.
