Description

Summary:

We are excited to offer you American Red Cross Lifeguarding Blended Learning courses even with the recent facility closings due to the coronavirus. Blended learning combines online learning with in-person skills sessions where you will practice skills and demonstrate competency. With the approval of the American Red Cross, we will adapt our courses by offering the online learning portion while we wait for facilities to re-open. Each session will be scheduled for 2 hours for 4 weeks. Please plan to complete the eLearning lessons of your training before the scheduled session dates below.

Since we are conducting course work prior to the in-water pre-test, we ask that everyone understand that the pre-test requirements will absolutely still be upheld, as seen below.

Questions? First read the info below. If you still have questions, simply click the "Contact the Organizer" button.

Lifeguard Training Prerequisites:

American Red Cross Pretest

  • Must be 15 years old on or before the final scheduled session of this course.

  • Successful completion of the online Pre-Work (see below for more information).

  • Swim 300 yards continuously demonstrating breath control and rhythmic breathing. Candidates may swim using the front crawl, breaststroke or a combination of both but swimming on the back or side is not allowed. Swim goggles are allowed.

  • Tread water for 2 minutes using only the legs. Candidates should place their hands under the armpits.

  • Complete a timed event within 1 minute, 40 seconds.

    • Starting in the water, swim 20 yards. The face may be in or out of the water. Swim goggles are not allowed.

    • Surface dive, feet-first or head-first, to a depth of 7 to 10 feet to retrieve a 10-pound object.

    • Return to the surface and swim 20 yards to return to the starting point with both hands holding the object and keeping the face at or near the surface so they are able to get a breath. Candidates should not swim the distance under water.

    • Exit the water without using a ladder or steps.
