Black History Blueprints | Adapting with Integrity and Navigating Change
Overview
Adaptability isn’t just a skill—it’s a mindset. Change is more than a challenge; it’s an opportunity for growth—if you know how to respond.
The history of the African diaspora offers powerful examples of people who thrived in uncertainty by drawing on ingenuity, resilience, and unwavering values.
In this engaging talk, Paul Crooks reimagines Black history as a masterclass in navigating change. Through stories of freedom fighters and leaders of liberation struggles from the transatlantic enslavement era, you’ll uncover how they transformed obstacles into triumphs by:
- Staying focused on their goals while navigating shifting challenges.
- Turning limitations into opportunities through creativity and resilience.
- Remaining true to their values, even in the face of adversity.
Relevance today: While this talk is rooted in history, it also points forward. The same blueprints that guided past generations can help us face the uncertainties of our time — from workplace transformation to emerging challenges like artificial intelligence.
Whether you're tackling workplace challenges, personal transitions, or community needs, this session provides timeless strategies for turning change into opportunity. Join us to discover how lessons from the past can empower you to thrive in today’s ever-changing world.

About The Speaker
Paul Crooks is a trailblazing genealogist and published author with a specialist interest in Black ancestry. He pioneered Black genealogy research in the 1990s, tracing his African Caribbean family history from London back six generations — to ancestors enslaved on a sugar plantation in North America 200 years ago, and further still to forebears on the Gold Coast of West Africa.
Paul gained national recognition with his acclaimed historical novel Ancestors, based on his family’s story, and he appeared as an expert on Black British genealogy on Who Do You Think You Are? with Moira Stuart. His second book, A Tree Without Roots, is regarded as a seminal guide to tracing Black British ancestry.
Paul is credited with inspiring an upsurge of interest in Black and British genealogy and is recognised as having sparked a movement in African Caribbean family history research, linking generations separated by slavery and reconnecting people of African descent with their ancestral heritage.
